January to May is the most festival season of the temples of Kerala. Many tourists, all over the world attracting the temple festivals. Camparisoned elephants are made to stand in scorching sun for hours with all embellishment. Unfortunately for the majority of temples, it is impossible to think about a temple festival without the camparisoned elephants. Sometimes the poor elephant are made to walk on tarred roads for the hours in the hot sun.
Sometimes festival seasons brought to dangerous game. Elephants are going amok and killing people are most common in festival season. The reasons are mainly the unbearable heat of mid summer. Secondly the torture of animals by mahouts and long standing from early morning to long after midnight. Most animals are immobalized by chain which often creates wounds on the legs. Some elephant owners wants only money, they not provide rest and proper treatments.
There are so many laws for elephant, one that says allow 12 hours rest after parading for five hours. But laws only in books. Opposing animals cruelty in temples is miserable to our members. Some peoples react violently.
